Evaluating Performer Concerns.
Best for Parents or Coaches
Much of Dr. Walker’s consulting work includes presentations, coaching clinics, parent’s training sessions and a variety of public speaking engagements designed to inspire guide, and support coaches, parents and athletes in becoming their best version of themselves. Dr. Carol Dweck’s “Growth Mindset” is a major influence in this area, as is Dr. Jim Thompson’s
“Positive Coaching Alliance” and the USOC’s SafeSport Guidelines.
In addition, he has designed specific assessments to help parents and coaches acquire the best practices in “how” they support their athletes, teams, and organizations.
3 Month & 6 Month Coaching Programs (1x, 2x, or 3x/month) are what we do best!
At the highest level performers are required to audition, try-out and on many occasions “perform” to earn their position in an orchestra, band, choir dance troupe or performing group of any kind. Performance “anxiety” can play a significant role in how they audition, and the quality of their experience as they seek. These challenges can and should be prepared for, and Dr. Walker’s “Competition Ready Evaluation” is designed for just this purpose.
Parents can be very supportive in this process, but sometimes their inability to maintain balance in advocating for their performer can hurt both their chances of success. “Performing your best when it really counts requires stress management, focusing skills, and the ability to blend with those they are performing with.”
Those that perform under control are extraordinarily well-prepared – those who struggle under these circumstances find themselves consistently challenged.
“Hi, Dr. Walker! I thought I’d let you know that this past Friday, I won a leading position (assistant Principal) in the Kennedy Center’s Orchestra. I think your session really helped me with some new tools for the audition process, and I want to thank you for an efficient session with quick results!”
